Newswoman refuses to report…
June 28th, 2007 by Karen
And I totally agree.
Wow, she seems really really mad. Frankly, I’d get tired of it too. Actually, I am already tired of it. Woo shredder!

And I totally agree.
Wow, she seems really really mad. Frankly, I’d get tired of it too. Actually, I am already tired of it. Woo shredder!
And THAT is why I didn’t continue my education in journalism. She’s my new hero.
Yeah well you WON’T find Paris on my blog either. Good for her.
Did anybody else want to smack her two sidekicks in the head? Can you say “unprofessional”?
And THAT’s just one more reason I don’t subscribe to cable and don’t watch much broadcast TV. I’ll take my news through a browser window, and you can do something else with your talking heads, thank you very much.
That was fabulous. I haven’t seen this. I love it. She held her ground. yea, those two boneheads should of been smacked.
Yeeeah… am I the only one who thinks that she was acting more unprofessional than her sidekicks? She was being very disrespectful to the producers, even calling them out. She should have aired her grievances with them personally, not on the air. I agree with her point–I’m sick of Paris, too, but come on… that was childish.
I love the “I’m about to snap…”
As if she hadn’t already?
Say No to Paris. Hear, hear, Mika’s my new hero. Even if she *is* on PMSNBC.
Good for her!!! Paris should never be a front page story..ever!! unless she dies in a tragick camel stomping accident!
This was hysterically funny and Mika has my complete admiration. I know journalists should be impartial but this was good to see.
The report looks like its just been set up to look like they care about responsible journalism, when its more likely the big wigs of the company got together and decided that was going to take place. She probably wouldn’t have done by herself as it would have put her job and reputation at risk.
Of course this was heavily scripted and planned, and very well done - the show got global atttention for several days. Expect to see a lot more of these planned and scripted instances in the future, as different shows try to boost their ratings.
Way to go,Lady!!! We are all tuning in to keep up with the real news!!!! You keep on keepin’ on!It’s nice to see that kind of journalistic integrity.
Finally someone said it!!! you go girl.
Guys-it’s obviously staged
It looked real to me especially where she tried to light the script, I detected some shaking in her hands and voice. She held together very well in spite of the two boneheads trying to get her angry.
More power to her, I hope that spreads. Enough of Paris.
I totally agree, digging into celeb’s lives is stupid and a waste of brainpower, distracting our nation’s idiots from the REAL matters (i.e. I dunno….THE WAR?!). However, by refusing to do the story, she actually made it a larger deal, giving Paris Hilton more power. :/
YEEEEESSSSS
She totally is real journalism …
If Edward R. Murrow was alive this would happen everyday. 99.5% of “journalism” is pure fabricated B.S. that you puppets pass on as well “news”.
Thank You Sister !!!
Even if this was staged, I like the statement it made. I, for one, am sick, sick, sick of hearing about, and seeing stories of Paris Hilton, and other so called celebrities getting top story, and front page. This, like sports, is NON NEWS! None of this garbage is worth even mentioning, so I am going to stop mentioning it.
this lady has her @#$* together. there are so many other things in the world more news worthy then paris hilton getting out of jail who cares man like seriously enough is enough. what a waste of good journalism
Well done Mika, and like others here have said, it’s trash like The Hiltons being all over the TV that I got rid of cable and terrestrial television.
More journalists should step up and stop pushing the likes of Paris Hilton’s ego onto our screens.
Great, sensationalize paris even more.
“Did anybody else want to smack her two sidekicks in the head? Can you say “unprofessional”?”
Yeah, ’cause reporting on Trust Fund Baby’s slap-on-the-wrist is much more professional than insisting on reporting actual news.
Agreed, there is no way that she just spontaneously decided to do this on air. It was defiantly some kind of preplanned stunt. Either that, or they are expected to do this kind of thing on air, in the same way bill o’rielly is expected to yell a lot and in general act like a moron.
That guy on her left, (our right) is an absolute wanker
My new heroine…..good for her!!
(and rotten tomatoes to the men on the set…..
it’s good to finally see someone get sick of that retard paris hilton. i am quite sincere when i say i hope she dies. as to her being put up to that, i dunno, it seems equally likely either way. hopefully more journalists will see this and a take a cue from her. THAT is journalistic integrity.
Oh? You haven’t heard? You (the viewer) choose what the headline is going to be. Any news agency that doesn’t have this kind of mentality doesn’t last. Thank you, free economy! Sorry, I know how comfortable it is to blame the “big-wig” owners and scoff at those two anchors that were annoyed by this little girl’s fist in the face of Big Brother. But it’s actually more true that our newswoman was going against the American public. Hoo-ray! lol. . .
“She should have aired her grievances with them personally, not on the air. ”
I don’t know, I got the impression that she might have already done that, to no avail. Even if she hadn’t explicitly said “if you lead with this story, I’m going to crack,” the producers were probably at least aware that she felt this story wasn’t newsworthy.
Also, if her outburst makes a news station or two take stock and cut back on the Hilton stories, then she has helped raise the level of journalistic discourse in the country. If a journalist’s profession is to bring news that matters to the people, what’s more professional than getting fluff news replaced with something more important.
“I know journalists should be impartial but this was good to see.”
What wasn’t impartial about that? She didn’t say Paris was good or bad, just that the story wasn’t important. Journalists HAVE TO make decisions abotu what is and isn’t important, otherwise everything that happens in the entire world has equal claim to being on the news. TOP STORY TONIGHT: DavidH slept past noon today.
Well, that might not have been the best way to handle the situation, but I think she had a valid point. It’s pathetic that something like that was chosen as the top story. Obviously she had already expressed her opinion about it, seeing as the other two groaned when she mentioned it. They knew what was coming. Perhaps it was staged, perhaps not. Still, I think she should have stood her ground as she did.
And THAT’S what’s wrong with America; her two hair-brained sidekicks. She makes a point, a very valid point, and they mock her. Makes women, journalists, and people who give a damn feel great doesn’t it? Does nobody realize we’re all being sideswiped by fluff so they can do whatever the hell they want? If only more people like her were given a chance instead of being mocked for not wanting to cover an unappealing moronic piece of trash over what’s happening to all of us. My God….
You can’t start mentioning something and then take credit for not saying anything…
Looked like a bunch of grandstanding to me.
News is due for a huge change.
fire her!!!
Did u hear the moron next to her say, OK now this is news, when she starts talking about real government issues, he just wants to talk about stupid hilton all the time, what a pathetic excuse for a reporter,. good for her refusing to lead with a story that should be left to the supermarket tabloids .
I spent over 20 years in broadcasting and as a news anchor I have to agree with her stand 100%.
Paris Hilton is NOT news. She is being rammed down our throats by those who think she IS news.
Bravo Mika!
yeah she rocks. those dudes are @#*% mongers.
Erica, your wrong, she should be calling out the producers on this, they are corrupting what news should be and has bigger balls then both her male goofballs next to her, someone has to stand up on this issue and bring it out in the open how news just tries to be entertainment
I freakin love that woman.
Although I’m tired of hearing about Paris Hilton, it’s not a reporters job to choose the format. She should have been fired.
I’ve never seen anyone as condescending and idiotic, as those FREKIN morons beside. I don’t belive it. You have to hand it to her. She really keps cool! I can’t belive the one guy said “Unhand me woman” JESUS CHRIST!! What a fu@£@ng prick… And they have the nerve to say she’s not a real journalist!?!?! I don’t belive it. And she is so right… What a stand. She truely is an inspiration, what a hero!
Three cheers. My new favorite TV journalist. Please hire her to replace Katie Couric. Brandon, I don’t know if you were being ironic there, but the viewer, the market, absolutely does not get to decide what the stories are. You think people really care more about Hilton than about Iraq? More about Anna Nicole than about the Presidential race? More about one missing girl in Puerto Rico or wherever than about Health Care? No. But the monopolistic corporate news does. Why? Because they NEED stories about blonde women in distress to distract you away from news that could make you think negatively about the corporations that run the media.
This was freaking hilarious. However, I’m leaning toward the idea it was staged. If it were spontaneaous, they would have cut the cameras. Yet they taped the whole thing and broadcast it, so I’m saying it’s staged. Good acting though.
We’ve got to the point where such disobedience is of absolute necessity.
Hammer mentioned that “it’s not a reporters job to choose the format”. Sorry but it’s nice to see a reporter with some integrity. If a story is B.S. then a reporter can and should refuse to report it. Good for Mika! I hope she gets a promotion.
I wish they didn’t all talk simultaneously.
you know they were just trying to piss her off.i enjoyed every minute.if she is paid to do it SHE BETTER F***ING DO IT.she should have known to listen, because they have all the materials to shove it back down her throat.
isn’t it cute when the mainstream media PRETENDS to have standards and ethics.
good for her. the two guys with her are complete a**holes. they should be ashamed of themselves.
I agree with her stand totally - she is a journalist and not a puppet. If they wanted a puppet they should not have hired her in the first place. They should have hired a politician.
My beef is with those two idiots either side of her - notice that they were the ones who have a dig at her at the beginning, and yet they are the ones who back off and follow the producer first. At least she isn’t echoing the voices in her ear.
My other point is that the argument seems to be within the format of the bulletin - very informal. They got what they wanted - controversy and a whole load of ratings.
I like how there’s a strategically placed shredder in the middle of nowhere facing the cameras right behind her…
There’s no way this isn’t staged. The general feeling of the American public is “too much paris!” So what better way to grab the public’s attention than to create a “controversy” that feeds to their thoughts?
What a crock. And I don’t see what the big deal is, famous people who are released from prison get reported on all the time, why does this have to be any different?
That was so punk rock… Awesome. Mika rocks
Yeah man! I love this stuff. It gives me just a little bit of faith that not quite everyone has signed away their souls yet.
The same thing happened on the national news here in NZ, the same person two nights in a row. I was never so proud of anything that had nothing to do with me in my life.
I am SO proud of her.
Since I no longer watch the news thanks to the crap they put out I missed this. Good for her, even if staged, it says what we’re ALL thinking. Stop reporting crap.
Those two idiots should be FIRED. SHE should get a promotion. The producer should be fired too. The “News” is a piece of crap because of stupid stories like the ones she refuses to cover. This is one of the main reasons I think the mainstream news media has sold us American people to the corporate sociopaths. If only there was a place were people of her integrity were allowed to do what they were passionate about - reporting the real news that matters to Americans, that really affects our lives, and not the “fluff” crap these so-called news media wants to lead with.
I watched this when it happened live. It was probably one of the funniest morning newscasts I’ve watched in awhile.
crack is horrible i work with recovering addicts and see them go thru horrible girations
to whoever asked the question… yes the thought of smacking her two sidekicks in the head seemed a natural response to the way they were acting. They made it more of an issue by challenging and toying with her. She took a stand and decided not to go with that as a lead story and was going to move on but Mr. Big Ego and his underling, Mr. Buttkiss decided to carry on as though they were in a pub sipping on their pina collatas, watching a football game and acting very manly! I bet those two guys “powder their noses” together as well…
Thank you!!! I am so tired of hearing about the “poor” happenings of Paris. Do the crime, do the time!!!!! I don’t care who you are. I don’t feel that it is news worthy to begin with and definitely agree that it is NOT a lead story. Doesn’t she get enough attention as it is? Props to you lady newscaster, hold strong!!!!
Way to go! Stand your ground… reporters need to stop reporting all that stupid pointless shit and get back to what really matters.
This is what journalism should be about. We should all refuse to cover the trash.
14th website so far that I’ve stumbled on this story… and same comments on all, or at least much the same.
American media is driven by celebrity and the pursuit of happiness (i.e. money can buy it for you). Paris Hilton is the epitomy of the American dream, she is what most of you dream of becoming, rich, opinionated and naive.
The broadcast was faked to boost ratings for the channel and to drive even more publicity for that *****, which she is now enjoying… Evelyn Waugh said their is no such thing as negative publicity and she is just proving the point, and laughing on her way to the bank too.
Why do you do it? Why do you even discuss such a non-entity as her? The only conclusion I can come to is that in some strange retarded way you actually envy her and her wealth and her position and her sodding dog…. very sad.
Turn off the TV, turn off your phones for a few hours, spend time with your children, do something creative, cook, COOK a @#$% meal that does NOT include chucking something in a microwave or a calorie count that would feed an average european for a week and above all else get off your fat arses’ and walk rather than drive for a @#$!ing change.
[translation: I am angry! I yell and yell!]
Paris Hilton is not to blame, the idiots that follow and adore her empty and meaningless life are…
Why does ANYBODY care what happens on an msnbc show that relatively few people watch? Pure staged trash.
A talking head “reporter” is hired to report, not decide, even if it’s an obviously inane story. This has absolutely nothing to do with journalism, and all about ratings and advertisers’ money. (But it’s also a “hit” on SNTC, so what do I care! Way to go, Karen!)
Good for her. She is right! Paris Hilton news should not be a top story, especailly for multiple days. Look at all the other problems this world is facing and people think Paris is “top news”? Get a clue society. Wake up and see what really is important in our world, Like counting the days until President Dick is out of office. Now that’s more important!
P.S. Michael has more problems than P.H. Don’t tell him!
All in fun.
Talk about insubordination. What’s next? Open dissent against the president in a time of war?
THANK GOD SOMEONE SAID IT!!! I AM SO SICK TO DEATH OF HEARING ABOUT PARIS HILTON. BUT MY OPINION OF HER IS SHY OF GOOD ANYWAY. SO WHAT IF SHE WAS STRIP SEARCHED, SO WHAT IF SHE DIDN’T GET GOURMET MEALS 3 TIMES A DAY. BOO FREAKING HOO!!! I DID 112 DAYS IN JAIL, DOES THAT MAKE ME FAMOUS, HELL NO! IT DID MAKE ME A SMARTER WISER WOMAN FOR IT THOUGH. I WAS HOPING THAT JAIL TIME WOULD BRING HER DOWN A NOTCH OR TWO. BUT ALL I HEAR IS POOR POOR PITIFULL ME. I WAS IN JAIL WHILE I WAS PREGNANT, AND THERE WERE OTHER GIRLS THERE THAT HAD GIVEN BIRTH TO CHILDREN IN THERE. THIS IS ANOTHER THING THAT I LEARNED…I DID WHAT I DID TO LAND ME THERE, NOT MY DAD NOT MY LAWYER, NOT MY CHILD THAT WAS ON THE OUTSIDE, OR THE ONE THAT WAS IN MY BELLY…I DID IT, AND I PAY FOR IT EVERYDAY…BOOHOO GET OVER IT AND DAMMIT WOULD YOU FREAKING EAT SOMETHING YOU SKINNY B***H.
[translation: I’m trying to win the angry yelling contest, so I bring in a lot of angry personal baggage to a comedy blog’s comment page.]
If she had lit that paper, she’d have been fired.
[…] Newswoman refuses to report on Paris Hilton June 30, 2007 Posted by Head Jester in : Everything, Video, News , trackback This is a must see video […]
These two are morons…Good for her I am soooo sick of Paris Hilton.Thank GOD she said no!… And to the A$$hole who was mocking GOD.. Your day will come when you either come to and say wow I need God or you can burn in hell with all the other Idiots.
[translation: the “this is staged/this is real” debate isn’t interesting enough, so I’m going to try to spark another website holy war, since there aren’t enough of them on the internet today.]
And this is why I love MSNBC. Bravo!
I can’t stand Paris Hilton, but this chick seems nutty. I don’t blame her for not reporting it, but that wasn’t strength. That was a crazy b***h. For all we know she’s another wannabe member of Hollywood that would suck her way to the top.
“”Bunk
Why does ANYBODY care what happens on an msnbc show that relatively few people watch? Pure STAGED trash.
A talking head “reporter” “”
It did seem very over dramatic. A wannabe actress.
Oh and Paris Hilton is a @#$*# that will no doubt cause 1000s of young girls to do things they wish they hadn’t and leave them with ideals that will one day get them raped or beat up. How glamorous! What a socialite! That’s Hot!
IT would be good for her if it wasn’t so staged. I like how they just happened to have not only a shredder right there, but one with a spotlight on it and cameras back behind the desk just in time to switch to the shredder when she got up “unexpectedly”. lol
It is all an act. this whole thing was staged. As if someone could really get away with this without prior approval from the producers. Give me a break.
That was totally staged, even though I still think that Paris Hilton is a total b****
This isn’t staged >> I saw the first broadcast, this is a morning show, she comes on often. She was pissed at the producers and knew that this mess shouldn’t be on the air, so she stood her ground. Good for her.
Good for her, how refreshing! Those two foolish men ,grow some and report the news as she was attempting to do so. Staged or not, thank god it happened.
this lady is out new hero… if i was paris hilton, I’d do the world a favor and kill myself.
I’m a Brit living in the US and the news here is a joke. Although it’s got lot better since the first time I was here.
A few years ago, while the Bosnia war raged in Europe, the lead news stories in the US were either President Clinton’s possible impeachment and the release of Keiko the @#$!ing whale!!
About this time 60 minutes ran a piece on the worthless fluff of US news. Since then it has improved but unfortunately in the media driven US entertainment will always trump news, especially on the networks.
Finally someone said something that makes sense.Who the hell cares about Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and the rest of the rehab celebs.
Oh and I’m canadian and I still hear about shit like this.Peace Out.Aurvoir.
I also completely agree with the woman. Those guys were being so immature and rude about the whole thing. Paris is not our main concern as a nation (or rather it shouldn’t be).
’bout F*king time someone said that!
No she wasn’t acting childish, she was actually saying what the intelligent people of north america have been thinking for awhile.
Disrespectful to the producers? F*ck the Ass-Wipes!
They are the ones who have turned TV journalism shows into rating grabbing whores.
i really hate paris hilton. and im with that reporter good for u.
Actually, if she wants to be a really good journalist, she should stop working for MSNBC, but it’s a good first step. All celebrities are morons, I don’t know why we continue to deify them in the way that we do. I am so happy we got rid of cable, but it would have been good to see something like this.
I love her! All the celebrity news coverage is bull@#$!, I hate how they show that stuff instead of real issues.
Everyone should read Brody’s comment.. A-DAMN-Men
I’m tired of paris hilton stories too but she needs to do as her boss tells her or quit.
I’ve gotta support Mika on this one–when a country’s at war, the war needs to be top priority, especially from any of the “major” media networks. If they hadn’t forced her to lead with the story, I don’t think she would have cared. But it’s an affront to our intelligence when a producer makes a choice like that, and I’m glad she called the producer out on it.
its about damm time someone came to thier senses the hell with paris
Finally someone has the courage to report something more impoerant than mere gossip. I’m sure that there are more pressing issues in this world to have as leading stories on a morning news program.
you guys actually believe this?!?!?
that was sooooo staged!!!!!!!!!
if this was real she would have been fired whether or not the “big ups” agreed with her or not…
I completely disagree with the whole lot of you. Her co-anchors were acting quite professionally, trying to create levity in a situation where she proceeded to bleed from her @#$@!@# all over the newsroom. It is not her call what she is told to report, that is her job. She is simply the medium between the story and us, regardless of how dumb the story is. I hope she gets fired and !@#$ MSNBC to begin with.
And furthermore, all of you, and I guess this includes me too since I am here writing about this, are giving Paris Hilton MORE press by sitting here talking about this shit. You should take your own advice and ignore this !@#$ all together.
pwnd
If I were a tv journalist, I wouldn’t want cover a so called story on Paris or any other celebrities either.
She’s right theres so many more important things to talk about than stupid celebrities.
Good for Mika if she couldn’t, in good conscience, report fluff as the lead. If it was staged, that’s fine too. Regardless, it made a point. There ARE more important things that should be reported.
And… just a side note… if she was insubordinate, all the better… bucking authority every once in a while to use your own brain instead of allowing others to think for you is a very good thing. More people ought to.
It appears like only 1 out of 3 people in this broadcast were actual news reporters. Can you guess which one? Hint:She’s wearing blue. You think the network may find two more like her?
“I’ll cherish it always” hahah awesome.
so obviously staged! what a dose of mince! most of you people are total nuggets with no sense of reality (or even just no sense).
Give yourselves a shake!!
she was right about trying to burn Paris’s story .. it’s not worth it
HELL YEAH!!! I never understood why HER or Lionel Richie’s daughter ever got in the news in the FIRST place!
She has my admiration, too.
Seems to be someone who knows what journalism should be about.
Stupid women dont no a good story wen they hear it
Alright! I love this woman I’d hire her in a hot second if I owned the network!!
So why don’t those men join the journalists position? oh i see, its jebus again.
I actually tried watching this show this morning. It was the worst piece of crap I’ve seen on morning TV. That says a lot.
It’s on MSNBC. I think it’s intended to make The Today Show on NBC look like a real show.
Please get my name, ‘Joe’, off of it now!!
So even if we’re all tools who secretly decide what goes on the news and the whole thing was staged, it’s still a very valid point. In a world that made ANY sense at all, no one would know who Paris Hilton is, much less broadcast her release from incarceration for a week straight.
And yes, the two guys are weenies. (I mean, they work at MSNBC. Come on.) And the guy on our right looks like Matthew Perry from Friends, a.k.a. Chandler.
