This 15 lb tabby cat chased a bear up two separate trees in rural New Jersey. You can read the whole story at National Geographic.

We had cats that could do that.
We have cats that are scared of possums.
Thanks for the great posts. I have just posted about your site here: http://www.theblogblog.net/?p=505
I’m from New Jersey. Even the cats are tough in New Jersey.
The bear is instinctively smart. A bite from a cat can cause a fatal infection (I know this because I used to work at an animal shelter) and no one will take the bear to the vet for antibiotics. The bear might kill the cat in a fight but why should it risk a fatal infection?

You’re absolutely correct. Cat Scratch/Bite fever can be lethal, unless you get treatment for the bacterial infection that follows. A friend of mine almost bit the big one from blood poisoning.
It’s all lies.
He actually shat on the cat.
He just went up there for a better angle of attack.
They are just putting on airs – who can climb up a tree higher and faster, so to say, sportanimals
